Israel & Tel Aviv

Fancy Dinners in Tel Aviv

OCD

Cheap Eats in Tel Aviv

Miznon

For everything in a Pitta, including a taboon roasted cauliflower.

Port Said

Sitting on crates in the street drinking loads of tasty cocktails, eating delicious food in the middle of the night – one of the things I do every time I’m in Israel.

Hacarmel Market

You guessed it! It’s a market, but a damn good one. Can get quite loud and dirty by the end of the day, but don’t miss out on my friend’s stall on Rabi Akiva street. She cooks classic Moroccan dishes better than any Moroccan grandmother. There’s also a cool stall in the middle of the market doing chicken schnitzel in Challah.

Chicchetti

Lovely Italian restaurant.

Jasmino

A stall specialising in offal (sweetbreads, hearts, kidneys etc.) but also just chicken thighs and veal kebabs. It’s all served in a bun with roasted vegetables and Amba (mango pickle). Make sure to let them know if you don’t like it spicy! (you might regret it for the rest of your trip otherwise…)

Coffee Break & Some Pastries

Cafe Dallal

To be honest, everything by the Dallal Group is good, and this coffee shop is no exception. A lovely spot for a coffee and a pastry.

Beyond Tel Aviv

Places I’d love to visit:

Pescado
this restaurant was nominated 24th best restaurant in the Middle East. But unlike all the rest that were easily picked from Tel Aviv, this one is in Ashdod- A very unpretentious non-touristy part of Israel.

Rutenberg

Based in Gesher which is in the Golan Hights, it’s a tiny restaurant with an ever-changing menu. I’ve heard a lot of recommendations about it.

Little wine bar
Based in Karkur which is extremely close to where i’m from, I think this place is finally upping the level of wine bars up north.

I would absolutely LOVE to hear if they are worth the hype. Let me know if you’ve been and what you thought

Helena

In the old port of Caesarea. Go for the daily specials Amos changes frequently, as well as a chilled white wine with the view of the old harbour. Amos also happens to be my former boss and I still consider him and his wife, Debby, my mentors so make sure to introduce yourself to ensure the best experience.

Nomi

Based in Kfar Monash which is about 20 minutes up north from Tel Aviv. Really bold flavours and combinations, no average dishes. The design is gorgeous too, with a vegetable garden leading up to this inside outside terrace.

Gouje & Daniel

Both for breakfast buffet and dinner.

Magdalena

Near Migdal in the North, this restaurant is run by a former Masterchef contestant. It serves Modern Arabic food.

Acre market

In Acre/Akko and the Knafe from the Sweet Kingdom is by far the best Knafe I ever tasted.

Thai underground

The restaurant in Pardes Hana started off as a completely secret restaurant, open only on specific days and you had to be “in the know” to be able to eat there. Since this major success, they’ve moved to a bigger venue, with a gorgeous surrounding, a vegetable patch and the vibe and food stayed just the same. Super authentic Thai cuisine.

Sandwich bar bracha

This hut in the lower part of Haifa is an institution. Walk in for a throw-back in time and for a good telling off by Bracha, the woman running the show. It’s just a sandwich bar, with a generous amount of pork (which is har to come by in Israel), and cheese, all toasted together. It’s simple, but it’s damn good.

Be.ito

A new bar/restaurant right in the middle of the market. All the produce is bought by the chefs in the morning and seasonality is key. You’’ll see a constantly changing menu and the flavours are always spot on.
